here i am, once again feeling terribly lucky to have such remarkably radical friends!!

i can't begin to describe how overjoyed i was this afternoon to receive this AMAZING record of last years librAwesome californiAdventure.. sent to me by the one+only mr. multi-talented danny sangra, my newest libro birthday week buddy+bestE's future forever, who has wowed me full-tilt in oh so many ways+certainly again today with his impeccable video documentation skills.

it's just simply delightful to see the still images i've been processing, since our return last october, come back to life in real time...
[also kinda wild that it's been nearly a whole year since, and it's almost time for our 2nd annual;]

i hope you enjoy it nearly as much as i do!

today marks the 10th anniversary of my move to manhattan!

i arrived on thompson street with all the dreamy dreams of any first timer in the city...with lofty visions of my fabulous future as a fashion fotographer...eager to start work as NYLON magazines first foto intern and as it turned out their very first street style fotographer..

in the years between a decade ago and today my path has diverged, away from fashion fotography and further into fine art....

but here i am still straddling the two communities with this upcoming solo show, "the distance of dreamers", presented by my dear friend SFK at the ROGAN store on september 16th...where we will be celebrating and articulating the importance of colorful beauty within our collaborative community --a project that was born and has grown organically out of friends in both fields of fashion and art.

i'll take this opportunity to publicly say that am equally thankful for all the luck i've had and all the mistakes i've made since my move from santa fe at 21...
it started off as very bewildering time (still so thankful my bff cedez made the move with me that semester!) and one that proved a little scary (to be here during 9/11) +yet one that was truly a crash course in city life.
whereas now, not at all.
this is home.
it is nothing, if not still a waking dream.

thank you all for your support and encouragement.
i feel fully blessed!

Barthelme, features new photography and paintings by Louise Ingalls Sturges. we have just returned from a magical journey abroad to ravello, italy and locarno, switzerland..we visited the latter destination for the locarno film festival to celebrate the european premieres of two of my betrothed's producing projects: ANOTHER EARTH (artist public domain) and TERRI (verisimilitude).

not that i could be a million percent objective but both films are truly wonderful in the most thoughtful fashion. not hard to imagine given the respectively radical nature of both directors mike cahill and azazel jacobs.
i strongly encourage you find a way to see these films, they will not just entertain you but thoughtfully challenge you to consider the shared human experience and the complex circumstance of subjectivity.

for the audiophiles, the ANOTHER EARTH soundtrack by the dear men of FALL ON YOUR SWORD is BRILLIANT!!!

they flew all the way to locarno to perform but unfortunately the 220 voltage got the best of their equipment..leaving my dance off with lady brit at a stand still, cut regrettably short by stupid swiss energy... but if you wanna get with it;) i strongly suggest you check out (+stream) it here. or better yet buy it here! this 1950's cartier ring is a real true blue gem...
out of reach monetarily but not in my dreams;)

+the victorian one is kind of a genius in between of some of the earlier posted rings...annnd it's from 1870, amazing not only in how contemporary it looks-but also because that was a majorly important time in the development of photography. (for example, the first theory of color photography was published in 1868.)

i've been meaning to share some top favorite new thangs with you for a hot minute, so here goes.

1. a.p.c. eyelet vintageE bikini...i saw it on bird's website right before we went to mustique+just had to get it, as it's sooo rare to find a new suit with the right 60's/70's proportions+all my vintage suits are faded+not ocean appropriate at this point. while my only new (3 yrs ago) zimmerman bikini has lost it's elasticity.

2.rag+bone boots.....seriously don't know what i wore before? they are on my feet 5 out of the 7 week days. i just aDORE them and their little rounded toe+man they are sooo comfortable and simply go with everything.

3. DVF sequin cardi (gay grandpa sweater;)...found at my favorite store, zoe, in my hometown during their major winter sale...+it seriously saved me from bitching at the cold..

4. SUPER into these super strappy coco de mer offerings+definitely splurged on some fancy underpinnings...my favorite fave harness-y bra was only 30 bucks on sale, but they don't have it on the website anymore. (you'll likely get a glimpse of it in an outfit post to come.

5. been listening to a lot of this new blonde redhead. the first song has made my 2011_2 mix (next to chris brown's young love of all things...somehow it really works!)

6. this domke foto backpack has really simplified my camera transport.

7. dear darling sarah's camera straps just continue to get better and better!! she made me this mega mr T style chanel strap for my big daddy+the foto i took at the ace in palm springs is now up on her SFK site! (oh+while you're on the internet why not become a fan of SFK on the FB yo!) we'll be collaborating on many more projects to come so stay tuned!

8. my sister gave me her old and my new 1999 volvo s70 stick shift delight just before christmas...(this one is not actually mine, i found the pic on the web..but it's the same as this, just in black, not green)...all i can say is christ almighty! it has changed my entire little brooklyn life for the better!!! so much scooting around and getting the lay of the land (which can be tricky as so much of one's nyc transport is underground.

9. (not pictured..but i will take one and insert it) is my marlow and sons blue leather sail bag. made from the cows we eat at diner. sustainable fashion at it's BEST!

he's accustomed to spinning the audible wheels with pomp and circumstance.

the dear and beautiful mara hoffman created yet another magical collection for fall 2011..there was a lot of dramatic draping and some completely stunning hand braided bustiers that are sure to be hits...as always, the all for the mountain jewelry was a perfect fit for the collection and i'd have to say her talented mystical mama pal, carly margolis, has created quite a number of new favorite pieces to add to my wishlist.
unsurprisingly...my absolute MUST HAVE piece are theses feather print skinny pants..sooooo completely and totally made for a gal like me...(and they're already quite aware that i'll be ordering those in no uncertain way!)

i stopped him to take a couple shots and we had a really lovely exchange about native american jewelry....honestly those pieces are some of the craziest scaled numbers i have ever seen in all of my world traveling. (perhaps he was a berber woman in a past life?:)
in the end, i kinda wish i had stayed to talk to his (obviously crazy) ass a bit more and hadn't hopped the L but c'est la vie.

a phenomenal, best EVER new years.

we: sighted a bald eagle, spent the morning walking on a lake, had a major dance/house party, exploded fireworks galore, had a led zepplin sing along in the last minutes of the decade, ate absolutely phenomenal marlow+daughters supplied meals, shared a lot of bubbly, made some magic and a lot of awesome...all shared with best friends+new friends.

i think 2011 is going to be a great year!

hope y'all had a magical merry holiday + i wish you an explosively awesome new years eve!!

we're ditching the new york new years brouhaha (IN MY NEW CAR!) to hang out in a lake house in the poconos!

what we've got on the agenda: eat loads of yummy marlow+daughters food, light a couple smoke bombs, wear sequins by the fire, take LOADS of fotos, drink this bottle of veuve and just get really fucking groovy.

i promise i will post more fotos soon. i just cleared 3,660 pics from iphoto-i.e. i've finally had a chance to upload all my digi pics from november+december...but i have to go dig my car out from under heaps of snow so my apologies but you'll have to wait a few days more:)

i don't know about you but my new years resolutions are stacking up: eat more fruit, make some more books, back up my digi jazz more frequently, jump rope, get rid of this vintage archive (lemme know if you'd like to make an appointment to go thru it;), +paint more frequently.

my dear darling gals at COURT are living the dream...
designing the perfect denim to cover the covetable asses of the world.

we had a meeting about me shooting their lookbook towards the end of summer+started brain storming concepts...but as so often happens scheduling got in the way and our city shoot didn't come to fruition...so as i was gearing up for our western adventures i suggested that they just give us some jeans to go and we'd see if magic could be made. i mean mercedez has been my muse for 12 years, so how could it go wrong?!

we shot from new mexico to the mojave to vegas to big sur...
+while there were plenty of awkward quick changes in the car...the experience was perfection--probably my favorite way to shoot fashion: having a blast--rainbow chasing through parking lots in vegas, smoke bomb experiments, climbing joshua trees in a head dress (not recommended actually), and countless other fortuitous friendly fashionable moments.

COURT jeans are available at COURT SHOP on mulberry...so go get your high waisters, dreamy bells, skinnies and sweetassed awesome on pronto!!
